West Hartford Public Schools

Hello Morley Families,

We hope that everyone is well as we start to approach the end of the school year (can you believe it!).

One of our traditions that typically happens every spring is the Backpack Brigade. In this tradition we have historically collected school supplies, and more recently funds, that are donated to the "Town that Cares" program to be distributed to families in need in West Hartford for next school year.

In a typical year, we would walk our donations to town hall, but of course, this year has been anything but typical! We are unable to make the walk to town hall this year as a result of the need to adhere to Covid safety protocols. Additionally, in working with the town, they have made it clear that the best way for us to assist families in need is through making monetary donations, rather than collecting school supplies (i.e. backpacks, pencils, folders, etc.). This shift in request changes the dynamics of our Morley-based event a bit, and that is something we will think through with careful consideration whenever we will be able to walk again (hopefully next year!).

With all of that said, we still want to be able to live up to our community school reputation and support the West Hartford community this year. In partnership with the PTO, we are doing a fundraiser the next two weeks, June 1st-9th, to raise money to donate to the "Town that Cares" so that families will be supported in the fall.

Starting next week through Wednesday, June 9th, please consider making a donation that you are comfortable with. Students can bring their donation to school to give to their classroom teacher, or you can make donations via check (made out to the Morley PTO) or Venmo @MorleyPTO (writing Backpack Brigade in the notes).

To make our donation go further, the Morley PTO will proudly match every dollar donated, so every student in our community will have the resources they need to be successful.

Please make your donation by June 9th. Thank you for helping us carry on a special Morley tradition even in this unusual year!
